Pieces of Pears

This short play was commissioned by Kresen Kernow - the Cornish Archive.  I was asked to write about a Cornish entrepreneur, inventor or adventurer.  I chose Andrew Pears who was born to an agricultural tenant family in St Ewe near Mevagissy.  Andrew, a barber and perfumer, invented Pears soap.  Although the soap is still well-known and many locals grew up using the soap, hardly any I spoke to knew the inventor was Cornish. Neither was it known how controversial soap was in the 29th century. To be continued .....
