Surprising connections!

My third visit to Tremethick House revealed some surprising connections. In the space of a very few hours I had met and spoken to two residents who had lived in places I had also lived, and one who knew the place my sister was born.

The first connection was with an ex-soldier, now resident at Tremethick, who was stationed at Whittington Barracks in Staffordshire, where I lived for 4 years. We shared memories of the NAAFI, where my mum sent me to get the odd bit of shopping - Rimmel foundation cream and cigarettes, I seem to remember - while the old soldier remember the NAAFI for different reasons - it was where he met a girlfriend.

I then met a resident who was born in a tiny village near Seaford, where I lived for 2 years. We shared some great memories of our experiences, although they were decades apart. We knew and followed the same walks and bike rides, some 10 miles long.

Sussex, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Cornwall - the journeys we take criss-cross and meet in so many ways and places. Not so much as small world as an incredibly marvellous one.
